Am I to believe that the Titan is no longer the fastest single GPU out there? Am I to believe that now is the 1080 ti. I just purchased the Titan. Did I make a mistake? Your thoughts?

Solution
A single 1080 Ti will outperform a Titan XP by a small amount. SLI 1080 Ti should outperform a Titan by a fair bit, but only in games that support SLI well.

The performance difference going from Titan XP to 1080 Ti should be pretty small. I wouldn't upgrade for that reason. Like I said, the important difference between the two is in price.

This might sound like a stupid questions but what does that even mean? It has more physical hardware? I mean is it still the superior card? Or is the 1080 ti? Just wondering if I should look into selling my Titan X for maybe 2 1080 ti's?

It uses the same GPU as the Titan XP, with the same number of cores. However it has a higher clock, resulting in better performance. It has a slightly narrower memory interface (and therefore 11 GB of VRAM vs 12 for the Titan), but again a higher memory clock, resulting in roughly the same memory bandwidth.

Overall the 1080 Ti is a little more powerful than the Titan, but the difference in cost is the part that's really significant.

Honestly, I can't imagine you're going to get nearly what you paid for the Titan if you try to sell it used, not with the 1080 Ti offering better performance for a fraction of the price. Returning it probably would be the best option, even if you have to take a restocking fee hit for returning an opened, fully functional product.

So what would you do if you were in my position. And you wanted the fastest GPU there was. Would you stick with the Titan X? Or 1080 TI in Sli? Which one would perform better one titan X or one 1080 to?

So what? Technology moves on...Maybe you should have waited a little longer? That way some new tech would've come out and you would be asking this agin....That's the trouble of buying the latest tech...

There's nothing mean about it....That's a problem we all face anytime..."Should i upgrade now or wait for the next one?"...Just think in terms of Need/ Money Spent ---> Does it do what you want? Yes -> No problem!
No ? Should've gone for a brand like EVGA that lets you upgrade/change what you got....

Solution
From the standpoint of a 1080 it's only 10% difference.

Between the Titan x and the 1080ti is only 0.5 tf which won't result to a whole lot of difference in real world. Maybe ~10-15 fps.
It's a 4.5% difference on paper. That's pretty miniscule and hardly noticeable.

I play in 1080 at the moment. I am however looking to soon start playing in 4K. It just seems to me that if the 1080 TI is faster than the Titan X for almost half the money it would seem smarter to get the 1080 TI's then one titan or 2 Titans and save some money while having the fastest GPU

The titan x and 1080 ti perform about the same, with the 1080 ti you should see a 3% increase. I reccomend returning the titan x and getting the 1080 ti just to save some money.

My way of thinking is returning the Titan X for 2 1080 ti's and spending that extra $200 for a second GPU instead of spending $1200 for a second GPU and still having the fastest GPU currently on the market. Thoughts?

I think, if you have the money, thats an amazing way to go about it.

The titan is still the fastest for some things and the new ti is faster for others. They will trade the performance crown depending on the game, application, or benchmark being run. I would just keep your titan and wait for the next more clear leap in performance. You still have more or less one of the two fastest cards. ...both are equal in average. Keep the titan x for now.

Literally the only advantage the Titan has is an extra GB of VRAM. 12 GB of VRAM vs 11 GB won't make a difference in the vast majority of cases, and in all other respects the 1080 Ti is superior and outperforms the Titan across the board (albeit by a small amount) for 60% of the cost. If the OP is able to return his Titan (even if he has to pay a restocking fee), getting the 1080 Ti is the obvious best choice.

It looks like the only time Titan X will be better is when the full 12GB of RAM is required. All other differences are insignificant enough that the GTX 1080 ti comes out on top. One key difference where the GTX 1080 ti will always come out on top is in the better cooling design of the card. It will allow for consistently higher core clocks and therefore consistently better performance even when both cards are overclocked.
