I have a Titan X as we speak. But ive watched videos, and done research on the Titan X vs. 2 970's in sli. The 2 970's beat out the Titan X in most cases. So my question is should i take this $1000 behemoth back.... or go back to Microcenter an save some money by going with 2 970's? My monitor is an Asus ROG Swift. If you don't know what that is its an 1440p 144hz monitor.

System specs:

Asus X99 pro mobo

i7 5820k overclocked to 4.0ghz

evga GTX Titan X overclocked to 1355mhz

16gb of ddr4 ram at 2400mhz.

Though the 970 SLI would yield better performance, common sense, at least for me, says you should keep the Titan X. That "behemoth" is a very powerful card (the fastest single GPU) and at the end of the day the question you should ask yourself is: Is it really worth it. The answer is pretty obvious for me, is it for you?

P.S. You can always another Titan X in the future, and that's hella better than 2 970s.

You simply can't beat 970's for value for money and low power requirements. 970 is where the smart money is. Titan is where the excessive money is.
There are advantages to a single GPU though, such as SLI not always working.
You clearly have a lot of disposable money with that system build so maybe just stick with the Titan.
The fact you can get a pair of 980's for Titan money which is much more powerful says a whole lot about the value of the Titan.
I personally won't be doing dual cards again but I also won't be buying a card with such poor value like the Titan. If I was buying right now I would buy 1 970 and in 2 years with the money I didn’t spend initially I would buy the new equivalent of the 970 (1170 or what ever it will be called).

Titan X on 4k is going to give you 30-40 fps. Good luck getting it up to 4k 60fps with 1 titan X. I decided to go with the 970 SLI since I have 1440p monitor. If you do not have 4k monitor I dont think its worth the money. I would suggest return the titan x and buy 2 gtx 980s. I wish i can return mine and get the 980s.
