I recently rebuilt my computer into a newer case so that I had room to upgrade components and such.

Before rebuilding, my system was reporting a TJ Max of 70°C.

After rebuilding, my system is reporting a TJ Max of 80°C

The only components that I changed out were the motherboard and power supply.

The motherboard changed from a ASUS M5 A88-V EVO to a Gigabyte 970A-DS3P.

The power supply was updated to a modular version of the previous one.

The CPU and CPU Cooler remained the same however newer fans have been placed in as the old ones were close to going out.

Solution
Both of those are incorrect in the first place.
The only place you should be checking temps is AMD overdrive. Their thermal margin method is the only proper way to measure (older) AMD temps.

I looked up the exact processor (AMD FX-4100) on AMDs website which reported the TJM as 70.5 C. Why would my system be reporting a false TJM?

So i should just keep a close eye on it under heavy loads and make sure it doesnt go above ~55 C

I know a good rule of thumb is to keep temps ~12 C under TJM, is this correct?
