Looking for a few tips to get the most quality out of my SVCD. I'm capturing
full frame 768x576x25 from live analog broadcasts and resizing that via
VirtualDub frameserver to 480x576. I'm using the internal noise filter in
high quality mode to smooth out the noise (also kills the detail a bit, but
can't help that).

At the moment I'm using the default profile with the highest quality motion
search. Is "No motion search for half pel" option best left ticked or
unticked? Should I try to reduce the block noise?

I tried increasing the GOP size a little but the resulting files didn't play
back properly. Anyone know why? Would I get a better quality with a larger
GOP?

Is there a better encoder out there?

Thanks for your tips.

If you can acces this group, ask your question in this group-
news:alt.binaries.vcd.d this is a discussion group and there are several
there that use TMPGenc for SVCD encoding. The best encoding quality is the
1 pass CQ mode, but the final file size is hard to determine, but the above
group has a trick AVISynth script to find the correct CQ setting for any
final file size.
