For casual gaming and everyday use, Movies etc not sure what to get. TN 1080 144 or IPS 1440 144.

I think the ips panel will serve you better.
The image of ips is better and you get a wider 178/178 viewing angle.
I also like the higher resolution 1440p.
A tn panel will be cheaper and faster if you are a fast twitch gamer.
To take advantage of a higher refresh rate tn panel, you would need a relatively strong graphics card like a GTX1060 or better.

I'd vote IPS unless you really need super fast TN for gaming, but IPS is nicer.
Also because we don't know your GPU freesync is good to have and so is 1440, but if you are gaming with a low end GPU then 1440 won't be good.
