TN panel dimming over time?

I feel a bit stupid asking this. I've been using an my trusty ASUS monitor for a number of years now. I believe I actually picked it up in 2009 or 2010. It's been performing like a champ, and even survived UPS holiday shipping once, which is more than can be said for most solid objects.

Lately though, I've been feeling as though the screen is "dim". The brightness is on full, and everything is working as normal. Do TN panels dim over time? Is there a way to offset this, or a way to treat a monitor to prolong its optimal color?

Side note: I got a laptop with an IPS screen about six months ago. It might just be my eyes getting used to that.

@Suzuki Thanks for the reply. I'm thinking you may be right. It's very peculiar as well. When I first saw the IPS screen, I thought "That looks decent. Not a huge improvement though."

I suppose the fact that I questioned the working condition of my TN panel after using the IPS for a while speaks volumes though.

*sigh* Looks like I'm going to be stuck buying IPS panels from now on.
