If you're doing both then IPS is the way to go. Response time is negligible for gaming and you would have a better overall picture quality with an IPS panel which would be my preference for gaming and especially video editing. Get something like the ASUS MX239H http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00B1IAL7W. It's an excellent choice for your price range. The picture quality as well as the aesthetics of the monitor are great for just around $200.

I would get IPS over TN any day, because there are good IPS monitors that are suitable for gaming with 5ms G2G, but honestly I have 7ms monitor and I cant see any frkin diffrence it depends on the person.

For anyone who is saying IPS is just as good as TN for gaming and the difference is negligible... please play on a gaming oriented TN panel, and then come back and say that. You won't be able to.

There aren't any IPS panels that are gaming oriented. You can't have the best of both worlds, at this point in time. TN is better for gaming, IPS is better for everything else. It's not all about the G2G response time, which refers to ghosting. One characteristic that most people overlook, is input lag. If you don't play any high paced games like FPS, then it won't really matter. If you play FPS games, i would HIGHLY recommend a 144Hz monitor. The difference is very significant. I would gladly give up the color quality of an IPS to get a low input lag, high refresh rate TN panel.

I currently play on a VE247H.... So I have a frame of reference. The OP also wants to do video editing so a TN panel is not a good choice.

That's not really a gaming oriented monitor. It's not targeted for gamers. I'm talking about a 100% gaming oriented monitor. Like the ASUS VG248QE, or a BenQ equivalent. Compare the product pages on ASUS to your monitor and you will see what I mean.

I used to have pretty much the same monitor as you, but it doesn't even compare to my current VG248QE.

I agree IPS is better for video editing. I'm not even saying he should get a TN. I'm just trying to him know that an IPS is really not as good for gaming, even though a few people are saying that.

I think we are getting off topic. The budget is $200 which will only allow for low response time TN panels, not 120Hz+ refresh rate monitors. I agree with you for strictly gaming that having a higher refresh rate TN panel (if you have the GPU power) is better but the facts remain: $200 budget and being used for gaming as well as video editing. Therefore, an IPS panel is the better choice.
