Hello everyone, I hope I could get some rationale advice. Everyone knows about the GPU chip shortage situation and the lack of 30 series cards. Scalpers on eBay, limited supply on Amazon, etc. The main point being: almost impossible to find a GPU for base price at this time.

So should I just bite the bullet and buy one at an insane price? I mean, $1,100-$1,200 is a lot to spend on literally ONE computer component, but still, I have been waiting since the 30 series came out last year and that's not including the fact that my GPU is like 6-7 years old now. Anyone with predictions, advice, etc is welcome to post. Just wanted to hear your thoughts.

Depends. Age has no bearing on performance. Your pc isn't getting slower, you aren't loosing fps by the month. So the real question is if the gpu you have can do the job, the need, not the wishy-washy want.

If your games are playable, deal with it. If the games are not playable, buy stronger. There's no saying every game must be played on ultra with uber fps, just needs med-high and enough fps to be enjoyable.

The 1070 is a respectable card, especially for 1080p. So decide if you really Need an upgrade, or if it's just a want. If it's a definite Need, then it becomes a question of what you'll need, what's your budget and what's available and where. Totally agree with Darkbreeze advice on where btw, although I'd add psu to the list of...
If you REALLY want/need it, and can afford it, then yes, you should do exactly that because things are not likely to get better anytime soon. In fact, in light of the way things have been going I suspect we're going to see things get worse before they get better. At 6-7 years old, you could definitely use a bump in performance if you play demanding games.

As far as buying anything used, I'd skip that. Too many scam artists out there right now selling questionable hardware along with a lot of mining hardware that's been ridden hard. It's simply not worth the risk to go that route. You can wait, of course, to see if the market changes, but honestly it doesn't look like the market is going to change for the better anytime soon, and lots of signs we might actually head the other way a bit further.

Keep on waiting.

AMD still does their Thursday queue sales @ 7am pst. Get as many devices to queue up as possible. Not sure if AMD is an option but the 6700xt at retail price is pretty darn good. Sadly the 6800&6800xt cards are tough to get. 6900xt could be an option but $1k.

Usually a few for sale on local websites decently priced at least around where I am.

Stock is getting better & eventually the card hoarders will have to sell at a reasonable price before the market flips. It'll happen eventually, hopefully sooner rather than later.

So you suggest buying from Amazon, even though it's expensive, and stay clear from Ebay?

Amazon or Newegg, or one of the others like B&H Photo, Best Buy, Microcenter, Adorama, etc., but keep in mind you can also, and in a lot of cases it might even make more sense, purchase directly from the manufacturer like EVGA, ASUS, etc. If you check all these sites including the manufacturer sites often enough and are diligent, you may be able to catch a deal along the way or at the very least purchase a card that you'll have absolutely no doubts about in regard to warranty coverage etc.

Often, with third party sellers, that's not the case.

Ebay, for graphics cards and motherboards, I'd pretty much avoid.

The OP pretty CLEARLY stated that they were looking for a 30 series card, not something from AMD.
