To crossfire or to not crossfire?

Hi guys,
I currently have a sapphire dual x R7 265 2GB and want to upgrade.
The thing is i do not know whether to get another r7 265 or a single r9 290.

NOTE: I plan on gaming maxed out at 1080p on most games.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

SAPPHIRE DUAL-X R7 265 2GB
16GB TEAM ELITE 1600 RAM
COOLERMASTER NEPTON 140XL LIQUID COOLER
120GB ULTRA II SSD (OS ONLY)
1TB SEAGATE HDD
COOLERMASTER GX 550W PSU

A single 290 is a much better option. You don't have to deal with crossfire, you have more vram, and it's a more powerful card then 265 cf.

R9 290 plus a new psu (a good quality 600-650w unit).

disturbed force thank you very much for your reply, seems like the r9 290 is the way to go, i was sort of between the gtx 780 and r9 290 but I think the 970 is just a touch out of my budget

EDIT: I MEANT TO PUT GTX 970

bignastyid can you recommend a good 650w psu? relatively cheap (im in the uk)
