To install memory, do I really need to update bios?

Hello,

I am using Old DP45SG motherboard with Q6600 2.4 GH cpu.
I have old 2 GB DDR3 1066 Mhz ram.

Now, this is the motherboard manual which specifically says that I can use 1333 Mhz ram on this motherboard. [ Problem is that 1066Mhz ram is just not available, I searched a lot in local stores, cant order online etc. ]

Ark: http://ark.intel.com/products/34683/Intel-Desktop-Board-DP45SG

The bios is old and has never been updated .. its some 2008 bios which came with the motherboard

The latest bios update from intel for this mobo is in 2010 .. here

I collected 2 gb ddr3 1333 Mhz ram from my friend and tried to boot with it and got 3 beep boot error [ram issue]

Now my problem is very specific .. I did read the bios notes but I could not find anything in the bios update that relates to motherboard reading 1333 Mhz ram. So I dont want a general answer of "oh update the bios and check..whats the harm" but rather a specific one if bios update would help running 1333 Mhz ram based on bios release notes.

thanks.

no no .. the other way round .. all the updated bios notes say nothing regarding bios update being related to anything to do with ram .. those bios updates say that they have to do with other things .. which makes me wonder if updating bios is required or not to make 1333mhz memory work.

aha ! thats what I thought .. could you please eyeball this link and confirm that the bios updates for this mobo have nothing to do with memory module changes etc? thanks so much

sorry that seems to be a bad link.can you try again.one other thought,if the supported ram frequency is 1066 try going into the bios and see if you can manually change the frequency of the new ram to 1066mhz.usually tho the ram will run at the supported frequency, but it cant hurt to look in the bios.i do,however, doubt this is going to be solved by a bios update.my bad,i didnt read your original post thoroughly enough.do you mean to say you are changing out 2 gb of 1066mhz ram for 2gb of 1333mhz ram.even if you get it working it will make no difference in performance.please correct me if im wrong.

its working.. plz check again.. thanks.

With and older motherboard, I would suggest a hard clearing of the CMOS settings, and then reset them if any overclocking setting were used, but a BIOS flash update is not necessary unless a specific memory issue is resolved with an updated flash.

If you are completely changing memory modules, always clear the CMOS on older motherboards, and then everything works problem free.
