To LCD or not

So I'm still undecided in what monitor to get and my new, erm... Dilemma, is to go LED or not.

What are peoples thoughts on LED monitors? Is it worth it? Who has changed and wouldn't go back? How about spending the same money on a regular none-LED LCD?

According to my reading and understanding as of date if you compare price v/s what you get, LCD still wins. There are a few advantages with LED but given the current prices, I think one should wait 6-12 months before getting one. By that time, overall reviews on the kind of promises / vs performance should come up.
So my call would be to get LCD Monitor

I'd love to wait as I can feel (in my bones) that there is going to be a couple of manufactures releasing some new models. But I cannot really wait that long.

I'm still toying with the idea, but cannot see any big models out there that stand out. But then again monitor reviews are pretty sparse these days.

Yes I am not sure of the exact price difference but I think its between USD50-100 or even more when you compare similar size / feature LCD with LED. There are also some "gray" areas with some manufacturers claiming "FULL LED" and some saying "LED Backlit" Dont know what that really means in "technical" terms, but I think we need to allow the technology to settle down a bit. As of now I would go with a LCD Monitor unless you get a good price deal

The benefits of LED backlit monitors are:

1. lower power consumption
2. less heat
3. lighter / thinner design

All current LED monitors are "edge lit" meaning the LED lights are along the edges. The light is directed in to an amorphis material behind the LCD panel and reflected outward towards the veiwers.

"Full LED" probably refers to full array LED backlight were the LED lights are actually directly behind the LCD panel itself; similar to traditional florescent backlit LCD monitors. It prefer full array to edge lit.

thanks for the technology lesson, I was wondering if someone was going to explain this. It's not LED v. LCD, it's the back lighting technology.
