Why do I want to use a NAS over just putting more drives in my current rig?

I don't know, why do you?

If you have a case that won't support more drives or if you have a motherboard that has all the connections used you might want to NAS.

Why do I want to use a NAS over just putting more drives in my current rig?

1st - set up and forget about it
2nd - access file under different OS in different protocol
3rd - lower power consumption - does not need much of CPU
4th - can be more the file sharing
