[SOLVED] To thermal paste or not to thermal paste?

Quick question: I have an old Lenovo Y410P. I do simple computing on it (YouTube.TV, internet, email, light graphics, spreadsheets... simple stuff). I recently added a SSD and upgraded the Ram to 16GB and it runs like a champ again. I've also replaced the keyboard on it. However, the bottom case and cover are falling apart and I am replacing both. I do not have an issue with overheating but it is over 8 years old. Honestly, I don't even remember when I bought it, its that old - LOL! Thermal paste has never been replaced.

What do you think, if I am currently not having an issue with overheating, should I bother replacing the thermal paste while I have the thing apart? I've read its difficult to very difficult to get right. What's your two cents?

I recommend you that u change the Thermal Paste, better now than never. At this point i think the thermal paste is dry.

if you're gonna have it apart anyway, you may as well. 8 years or more is a bit too long to not have reapplied it before

there is no downside to doing it so may as well.

I agree, change the thermal paste and clean all the dust out of the heatsink, you'll see better performance/lower CPU tempratures for your effort

I agree to, and I don't think it's difficult. If you changed all you mentioned by yourself you will be able to do a reapply.

It was one more simple step in the long process of my first tear down and reassemble.
