TOEE: Virtue is its own reward?!

Minor spoilers for the game, I suppose, but honestly, nothing
big.

So I talked to that old guy Black Jay, and he was gruff and
stand-offish and such. Then I found a ring with his name
engraved on it and brought it to show him. And he went
nuts with the gratitude, thank you so much and such. He
offers to trade some magic items for it, but I'm not going
to charge a guy for his dead wife's wedding ring, y'know?
So I said no, no, I don't need payment, and he's like,
okay, great, then.

And that was it! Every other game I've ever heard of, he'd
be all, "No, no, I insist, choose what you want!" And
I'd respond with, "Well, if I must..." But no, in this
one I tell him I don't want a reward and I don't actually
get a reward. What kind of pansy-ass game designing am
I dealing with here?!

In other news, my halfling thief screaming "I regret nothing!"
when killed by a trap was pretty damned amusing.

One focus of RPG games are choices, no? You made a choice - now live with
it!

Live with the consequences of my own actions? I don't know what
kind of world you're living in, pal, but here in America that's
just crazy talk.

So, you refuse rewards expecting a reward for refusing the rewards and are
complaining because you didn't get a reward?

My head hurts.

This is what I'm saying, yes. How dare that stupid jerk take me
at my word?

My apologies.
