I guess you'll have to get the upgrade?i don't know what you mean by 'tools'.
If you are upgrading, and if your XP had installed the serial number, your W7 should be activated recognising the same serial num.
am i right?
Otherwise you should get a new serial.
I think there is a post on this site about it.

If you don't know, best to say nothing then to give wrong information.

What tools are you refering to?

First get the upgrade adviser.
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/downloads/upgrade-advisor

Read the migration information from XP to Windows 7.
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd446674(WS.10).aspx#BKMK_UpgradeFromXP

Use the W7 Easy Transfer Wizard to save your files and settings.
To use the W7 Easy Transfer Wizard:
Browse to the DVD drive on your computer and click migsetup.exe in the Support\Migwiz directory

im telling you what i heard, and if i'm wrong let me know when you find it out. But that reply was hopeless

Jonmor68 appears to be correct on ALL points.

Something else to consider. Win7 does not include Outlook Express. If you've been using that, you may wish to migrate to something like Mozilla's Thunderbird first, in order to transfer your email information.

If you had read the post properly underneath your quote,
"am i right?"
I wrote
"Totaly wrong!"

When you buy a new OS or any new software, you get a new activation key, that's logical.
If you could reuse your old one, no one would pay for a new OS or other software and everyone would go broke.

ok,man,i read that on a website, that you could use your old serial to activate an upgrade...
but apparently it's a lot of bulsh**t.
just dont say 'if you don't know dont post anything' because everybody learns something everyday. :kaola:
