i just built a beginning rig,
q9300 stock
stock heatsink fan
corsair xms2 800mhz 2 -2gb sticks
antec basiq 500W
ati radeon 4650.

the cores seem to be running hot
50 C idle, almost 60 C after 5 min with prime 95

i reseated and removed and reapplied a normal amount of arctic silver, then i made sure i reseated the heatsink properly. anyone else experiencing these abnormal high temps, or can somebody please tell me if this is normal. or what i can do to remedy this. thank you!

thank you, i now know that my temps are safe, but do you think that this is a normal temperature, is there anybody else out there that is having these same temperatures stock, because i would like to overclock my setup, and i think these temperatures are too high to do so effectively

There are plenty of good aftermarket coolers for your processor . You will need one for overclocking . Members of this forum have a few favorites . I havent used them so its time for you to head to google and check out a few heat sink reviews

how many degrees celcius are people usually able to take off with a top o the line aftermarket heatsink and fan, ( i dont want to do water cooling) unless i really have to

i was thinking that the Thermolab BARAM looked pretty Bad A**. im going to get it, unless someone knows of a fan heatsink that can disperse more heat and thinks ill have better results, and of course if i can find a retailer online that has it

ooh and last but not least thank you outlander for your answers! :hello:

Don't judge by appearances.

Check this out:

I noticed that the 2nd gen C2D's and Q's have a heatsink about half the size of the original C2 CPU's. That pretty much means that they are no good for more than stock speed.

Personal experience:
I have an Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro. I got a Q6600 to 3.3 GHz. with it. Great economy cooler. I also have a ThermalRight Ultra 120 Extreme with a Scythe S-Flex SFF-21F fan. Got the Q6600 to 3.6 GHz. Runs Prime95 4 cores like forever. Core temps reach 61 C to 65 C. under load. Tested it for 72 hours. A little pricy especially since it does not come with a fan.

According to sig lines, the Xigmatek HDT S-1283 is really popular. Works as well as the TRUE and a little more than half the price. I bought my TRUE before the Xigs came out.
