i have an 800mhz duron on a soyo k7vta-b mb, the cpu runs around 110-114deg f on average....is this too hot? and if so what would be a good heatsink and fan to get that could possibly be found in a local store for under 40 dollars

110-114 (43-45 C) is fine for a non-overclocked Duron. Don't waste your money.

No, thank you. Just give me the BIG heatsink. It's an Athlon.

Yeah, I agree. If you start crashing or something, then maybe you'd need to get a better one, or get some case fans.

I don't know if local stores sell good brands under $40. I have yet to see any good ones.

Kernel32.dll error...aw, son of a.... 😱

actually yeah, it has been crashing, during games mostly,im trying to see if its heat, or video card thats causing it, i currently have 1 case fan thats an exhaust fan. and the best that the store sells is the chrome orb,and the volcano 6, which i dont want, i was thinking of ordering the dragon orb 3 maybe

At 45 degrees I do not think that an overheated Duron is your problem. This does not mean heat is not the problem. You can check a general heat problem by opening the case and pointing a room fan into it. If the problem is eliminated then heat was definitely the source.

Other things to consider, are the AGP driver (chipset driver), BIOS, and video drivers all up-to-date? Likewise, is the BIOS? What video card do you have? Is it a TNT2, a Geforce256 (Geforce 1), or a Voodoo 5, all of which require a beefy power supply for system stability? Does your video card share an IRQ with anything other than PCI Steering?

If you only have one case fan I recommend moving it to lower front of the case as an intake fan. Your PSU fan serves as the system exhaust fan.

my drivers were up to date, but i noticed via just released new drivers on the 30th so i will update those, and i got the newest bios for my motherboard......its a tnt2 m64, running on win2k, it does share an irq.....but according to ms this is normal, win2k supports irq sharing. the video card doesnt have a fan on it, i was thinking i should add one.....any suggestions?
