Having an issue with wireless at a school. We have a wireless router set up in a gymnasium. It is secured with a password and there are only two devices that connect to it. If the gymnasium is full of people(300+) for an event, the wireless will go down, even though there are only two devices connected to it.. Would all of these people's devices(phones/tablets) only attempting to connect to it take down the wireless?

I suppose I Ishould mention that this is a basic D-Link wireless router, meant for home use. We are planning on replacing it with a more powerful access point like we have installed throughout the school in a few months.

It's possible, even though they can't connect. Dependent on the class of router this potentially could cause issues with the two connectable devices, including dropped connections.
Worse case scenario three hundred people with various phones, tablets, laptops etc creating havoc for the router.
A good business class router, should be able to negotiate the chaos.

have you looked in the router to see what has connected to it. you said school so if one person was to leak the password wouldn't take long for many people to get it and use it and that could cause mess with consumer router
