Hey guys.

I wanted to know whether I applied too little thermal paste. Idk what Hardware monitoring software to use. However I want to know whether I should worry?

So I have applied thermal paste: by having a straight line from around 1 edge to the other edge.

The line was not thick. It was not completely thin, but it was medium - and a little thinner.

I know too much is not good, nor is too little.

I was either using the CryOrig Thermal Paste that came with the H7, or the NT-H1 Noctua Thermal Paste.

I literally draw a line across the CPU diagonally ( Not completely from edge to edge. Around the edge). Only once.

Hello... The method I use is just finger applied spread, even film on the CPU and Heat sink... basically you are letting the force of the Heatsink to CPU spread an un-known amount across them... it will take time and heat too spread it out evenly.

Basically just boot into your BIO's and read the CPU temperature and Fan speed... your CPU will be running at full speed there for immediate thermal results.

1) what CPU/MB/heatsink you using?

Thats probably fine, I usually just put a pea size dot of paste right on the center of the cpu and let the heatsink spread it out. You are better off using too much than too little. Despite what the internet will tell you the way you apply your paste makes very little difference assuming you use enough, here is a video using of all kinds of different methods including bad ones like spreading it out with your finger or using way too much, barley made any difference in their tests. The only test that showed negative results was using too little.

I havent see your line, but thats probably too much. Habitually, a small pea size drop of thermal paste right in the middle in more than enough!

You can download and install hwmonitor to see what kind of temperature you have for your CPU! Just to be sure that your temp stay within "normal" range.

Thermal paste application isn't that big a deal. Too much is when it runs over the edge. Not enough is actually kindof hard; the paste really only needs to cover the area above the die under the heatspreader, and it's not very big:

So, even if you ended up with a circle in the middle of the IHS about the size of a dime or penny, that would be plenty.

Well, at idle it stays at 27 temperatures. It never makes any noise either. Max I have seen it is go in the 40s.

I didn't know that under the metal-heatspreader there was this small thing, you see in the picture.

I did a one-line across the CPU.

So what HW monitoring software do you recommend, that contains no virus?

I want to see the temperatures when playing Battlefield 1 and another game at the same time.
