Hi--

If A "Tooth" player entwines a reap and sow targeting an artifact land, and
the "ravager" player sacs it in response, Does the "Tooth" player still get
to search for a land?

Our group is a bit confused over whether or not all "targets" are considered
illegal or whether the main part of the spell is an "enabler spell".
Any clarification would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance
Malcolm

,----[ Oracle ]
| Reap and Sow
| {3}{G}
| Sorcery
| Choose one -- Destroy target land; or search your library for a land
| card, put that card into play, then shuffle your library.
| Entwine {1}{G} (Choose both if you pay the entwine cost.)

No. The spell gets countered on resolution since all of its targets
(one) are illegal.

Well, I don't know what you mean by "enabler spell". Entwine simply
lets you choose to do both modes of the spell. When entwined, the
spell has one target, much like if it read, "Destroy target land; then
search your library for a land card, put that card into play, then
shuffle your library."

If a spell has targets (as this one does) and all of those targets are
illegal when the spell tries to resolve (as will be the case if the
targeted land here is no longer there), then the spell gets countered
when it tries to resolve, and none of its effects occur.

You're very welcome. Please post again if you have any more questions.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to get back to reality.
Wherever that is.

Reap and Sow 3G Sorcery
Choose one - Destroy target land; or search your library for a land card, put
that card into play, then shuffle your library. / Entwine 1G (*)

Entwined, this has one target. If that target is illegal on resolution, the
spell gets countered. Countered spells have no effect what-so-ever.

What "main part of the spell"? There is one spell here. It can have mode A
chosen, mode B chosen, or both modes chosen. In the first and last of these
cases it's a spell with one target; in the middle case it's a spell with no
targets. If a spell with one target finds that that one target is missing on
resolution, it gets countered.
