Hey there, can anyone suggest to me (in their opinion) the top 10 laptop/ultrabook brands in regards to build quality and reliability (Not price or selling statistics)?

Solution
ASUS, Lenovo, MSI, Dell, Samsung would be my top 5. I don't think I'd look at systems outside of those. Apple has good quality also but is a market if what you want to do with the computer can be done on the MAC OS and you are OK with spending more for the name and hardware feel.

In my experience, and I tested many laptops and heard a lot from people in the business, it goes like this:

1. Toshiba
2. HP
3. Lenovo
4. Fujitsu
5-7 Asus, Dell, Acer - same quality
8-10 who knows...

I dont know much first hand about Samsung and Sony, and I dont count Apple here its a different story

I have only had 3 laptops in my lifetime so I can't really say. I can recommend brands that are good based on what I have heard if you want?

In my personal experience, asus are great if you have a lot of money. Samsung are very good as they keep going although mine died after I dropped it. This was a netbook though so I don't know how the newer ones are.

In my opinion the only mac worth buying is the air as it has an excellent keyboard and very good battery life. The pro's are overpriced in my opinion.

The question you asked wasn't a good one because each company makes different models and they aren't of the same quality. The best question would be what model is the best. Basically a 500 dollar pc from Dell, HP, Asus and Toshiba are going to be made with 500 dollar parts.

Laptops are designed by the OEM (Dell, Apple, HP, ETC.) and manufactured in Asia or China by ODM's like (compal, quanta, Foxconn). The use Intel or AMD processors, ATI or Nvidia graphics cards, Soundblaster or Realtec are 2 sound card makers, Motherboards are standard as the case as standard.

I've owned Alienware, HP, Sager, Hitachi and Acers laptops mostly with powerfull components over 1000 dollars but to 2500 dollars and I haven't had many issues at all. The HP the battery died after a year and is got hot. But every other issue
