top half only showing

Hello, my daughter and I have HP laptops. I have W XP and she has W 7.
Mine only shows the top half of the screen when turned on. I can't see to open it in safe mode with typing availability. can I hook hers to mine to get into mine to get to my files/pictures ? I do have the comp to comp ( blue end ) hook up cable. Thank you

You can network computers to share files, but you need to share the folders anyway.

If you have an external screen you can connect it to the laptop with half the screen out and should be able to see everything.
