Hi all,
I'm looking to find the best TV to have hooked up to my gaming desktop. I've been researching for about two months now and have yet to settle on one model. For the past year I had a 27 inch Samsung monitor and a 42 inch LG 42LN5200 but sold both recently due to a move back home to the United States from abroad. The 42 inch was awkward at first but quickly became my primary screen so I know I'd be comfortable using something similar.
I've been considering 32-47 inch screens and the primary uses will be movies/shows (50%), gaming (30%), and general browsing (20%). I play mostly online FPS as well as some RPGs. My current GPU is a 560 ti but I was planning to upgrade to a 780 ti in the near future. 3D and smart TV functions are not necessary but preferred for future proofing and resale value. I may also purchase a PS4 or Xbox One in the near future. In regards to price, I was hoping to stay under $1,200 and would certainly not rule out TVs under $500.
I've considered a number of TVs including the new Sony KDL-40W600B and the Vizio E420i-B0. I've also considered 4k like the yet to be released Vizio's as they will supposedly have true 120 hz panels opposed to the majority of TVs which use marketing gimmicks like Clear Motion, TruMotion, and MotionFlow. If I were to upgrade to a 780 ti, it seems like I would benefit by having a screen that's a true 120 hz, correct? I have also been using http://www.displaylag.com/ as a reference as this seems important for gaming.
I've considered a 27 inch 1440p monitors like the Overlord Tempest and the Catleap which can be overclocked up to or close to 120 hz. Optimally, I'd have a separate 50-60 inch 4k TV and a 27 inch IPS 120 hz 1440p monitor but I think that's a year or two out from happening so for the time being, a general do-it-all TV seems like the answer.
Sorry for the long post - I'd love to hear everyone's opinions on this, thank you!
TL;DR: I'm looking for the best HDTV to hook up to my desktop to use mostly for movies/shows and gaming.
