I am reading that a PSU can be mounted on the top or bottom. Not so on my HP Pavilion that I Just purchased. when I attempted to change one out the only option I had was to mount with the fan right at the top with no exhaust space. Well a couple of mm and the case has a solid top. If I turn it over the mount holes to not line up.

Solution

The case determines where the PSU goes, top or bottom.

If this is a top mount case, the fan opening goes towards the bottom. That is the Intake, not the Exhaust.
If the holes don't line up, possibly you have a proprietary HP case that will only take its original PSU.

Pictures would help here.
