As the title says, I'm currently saving to build a new rig but cant decide what CPU to go for.

I've always used Intel but have read great things about the 3600 so was just wondering what you guys think. Is there a new gen Ryzen around the corner?

The 10600k is around £100 more expensive than the others I have listed.

Is it pointless going for a 9600k given that the 10600k has just arrived.

I cant decide.

Cheers

What's the priority of the build? If you know that...

Intel: top dollar, top gaming performance - but there's a catch... you have to spend big to even see that difference over a Ryzen setup.
AMD: Best all rounder and more reasonable pricing.

If you got money to burn:
10600K
Z490 mobo
Dual channel, 3200mhz or higher ram
High end air or liquid cooler to overclock
Top of the line gpu, like a 2080Ti or 2080 Super
Play at 1080p or lower
^That's your gaming beast - throws value completely out the window. As I said earlier, that's the catch to Intel's gaming performance.

If you're a little more value-conscious:
3600(X), 3700X
B450, B550, X570 mobo
Dual channel, 3200-3733mhz ram
High end air or liquid cooler, while not necessary, it...

RX 5700XT, 2070 Super - or something more affordable
^Games fine, and handles productivity workloads great - and you don't have to break the bank to do it.

Just purely gaming mate. I got rid of my rig a couple of months ago which had a 9600kf and 2070 super but decided to come back to gaming already.

I've always fancied the switch over to Ryzen because of the value. And Freesync is much cheaper than GSync even though some freesync monitors Support GSync now.

When will the new series of Ryzen come out?

I personally wouldn't consider the 9000 series at all, because only the LGA 1151 i9 has Hyperthreading, which means you are already cutting the usable system life span by 2-3 years for future games that may run better or possibly even require more than the 6 CPU threads available on the 9600K.

If you don't need the new system right now, I would wait for Ryzen 4000 to release and then make a choice. I've seen speculation that they will be releasing either in August, September or the most common being October. So if you can wait 3 1/2 months, you could potentially get a much cooler running CPU than Intel and just as fast or possibly faster.

Otherwise the 10600K would be your best option right now for highest fps and equivalent CPU threads to a Ryzen 5 3600. You will have to also factor in additional cost for a beefy better CPU cooler.

I may just got for the 10600k for now or maybe get the 3600 then sell it on in a few months time.

Cheers for your lengthy reply. Appreciate it

The R5-3600 is quite a bargain if it can be acquired at it's sale price of $167 or so...; R7-3700 pricing looking good , too, IMO....

The 10600K is faster, but, more expensive, and, requires a cooler, adding to the expense, as does the desired Z-490 series of mainboard.
