Hi guys,
I wanted to ask the community a question about laptop CPU upgrades.
I have a 3 Year old Toshiba Satellite l650-12p it has an i5-430m CPU.

I want to upgrade it from and i5 to an i7 preferable a quad core i7 with hyperthreading. Below are some pictures from CPU-Z to give you a little more information about my CPU, Motherboard or chipset.

The second link is just some processors that I am considering. First do you think I could get away with the Clarksfield type i7 and is 45W too high of an energy demand?
If you have any other suggestions please let me know.

I did consider playing it safe and getting the best 1st gen i5 CPU but I don't mind paying a little extra and I just want to experiment because this laptop is not important and it is my spare computer. Do you think a 1st gen core i7 Extreme would work :p

I just want to add that if this is in the wrong section I am sorry and I will ask the Mods to move it if people justs let me know. Thank you guys and I look forward to reading your suggestions.
:)

This is super tricky because upgrading a laptop processor,GPU or any other components is almost impossible for the average pc enthusiast.
This is due to the fact that all the components are soldered to the motherboard in most cases.

Thank you for your response. I was scared you might say that :/

I have opened the laptop before in order to clean out some dust that had gathered but I have never removed the heatsink to have a look at the CPU. I found this video on youtube of a laptop that appears to be quite similar to mine. The only major difference I can see is that this laptop has a dedicated GPU something that I do not have.

Can you look at the video and tell me if that CPU looks Soldered on?
I am planning on reapplying the CPU thermal paste later this month, I can only then be certain if the CPU is upgradable. For now I just want to know what options are available.

EDIT:
This picture looks very very similar to my laptop motherboard

It´s not soldered, you can upgrade it, just be sure that future CPU is compatible (that´s what I was searching now, you gave me a good possibility). I have one L650 with P6000 CPU, I already opened it to clean and thermal paste, it's an easy unlock/replace/lock CPU socket, for what I remember to see.

But I have it disassemble now... Going to make that confirmation

Has I said... It´s an easy unlock/replace/lock CPU socket
