Toshiba external hard disk is detected but shows empty and asks to format i have

hi all

i need help i have a Toshiba external hard disk it is detected by my laptop but wont let me access it and asks to format it before i can use it. i have too many important and personal files on it and need to recover them !!!

Try to backup all your data with this free download Recuva.
Once data is recovered, there wouldn't be any worry even to format the HDD.

i also have this problem with a samsung portable drive,the RECUVA software still would not access the drive to retreive any files
