I have a Toshiba MK1059GSM 1TB Hard Drive on Windows 8.1. Earlier today I dropped it and after that when I plugged it into the computer it will recognize it and make the USB connection sound, it also has its blue LED on. I have tried deleting it from the laptop and when I plug it in on restart it will read and reinstall itself but still will not show up. It also does not show up under Disk management, but will show up under Device Manager and when I view the properties it says the device is working properly.

So it seems like it's still working after the drop but not showing up. Is there anything I can try to see if it will work or does it seem to just be broken?

Hi

Is there vital data on this hard disk?

If not you could look inside the case for obvious physical damage and if there is circuit board (USB to SATA bridge circuit) in the case or all the electronics is on hard drive controller board.

If the hard drive has standard SATA data & power connectors you could try replacing the USB case

but if there is important data on disk seek professional data recovery help

Try Western Digital Datalife Guard for Windows to test the drive (works with any brand of hard drive)
see if fault is electronics or hard drive components.

but without disk showing in Disk management fault seems severe and WD DLG software may not detect the USB hard drive

Thank you for the reply sorry for taking long.

I have already taken the drive out of the case the only thing visibly broken was a plastic piece from the case, I have not taken apart the hard drive itself though.

I installed the program and it will show that the drive is on there but the SMART status is unavailable and shows a capacity of 0 MB test results are as shown:
Test Option: EXTENDED TEST
Model Number: TOSHIBA External USB 3.0
Unit Serial Number:
Firmware Number: 0001
Capacity: 0.00 GB
SMART Status: Not Available
Test Result: PASS
Test Time: 16:04:32, November 24, 2014
