EDIT: symptoms, I haven't confirmed 100% it's the inverter, just a reasoned guess. What happens is when I turn the laptop on the screen and the backlight turn on. 9 times out of 10, the backlight will then immediately turn off (the screen itself works fine, always). Jiggling the screen does nothing. So I close the laptop, hibernate, then reopen. The screen and backlight turn on. Usually, the backlight will then turn off again. I repeat this process a few times and then the backlight will stay on. I can move the screen and it will still stay on, for hours. Rarely, the backlight will spontaneously turn off without any touching or motion. From what I can tell, this is probably an inverter problem. It's a laptop made in 2010.
I'm trying to find a replacement inverter for my Toshiba Satellite laptop screen, P500 PSPGSU-1VL044. I've opened it up and the inverter id number is SMDAS023172105 AAE3UZ A1A, of which AS023172105 seems to be the important part.
It's from 2010, which I imagine is why I'm having so much trouble finding the part.
Now, I'm willing to bet there is a newer model inverter that supersedes mine and is compatible, sort of like when a car manufacturer updates a particular sensor that is backwards compatible with older models. I'm somewhat tech savvy but not enough to figure out if other inverters would work without buying and installing it, which I'd prefer not to buy inverter after inverter hoping one will work. Screen size is 18.4 inches. I'm thinking an inverter meant for the same size screen that has the same connections and pin numbers might work.
Or is this possibly the backlight bulb?
Thank you for reading and responding!
