Toshiba laptop with external new HP monitor , powered but orange light only - HELP!

I have just purchased a new HP external monitor HP Elite L2201x and have set up correctly according to instructions, including the device drivers. However, while there is power showing it remains blank on monitor screen only with on button showing orange. I have tried troubleshooting but not having any luck. Can anyone out there in cyberland help me please?

orange light usually means its in standby mode have you tried hooking it up to a pc, i assume so. if so does it show up in control panel?... open your control panel and go under apperance and visualization there is an option to adjust screen resolution click on that and try to see if your pc detects the monitor.
