Toshiba Laptop with Vista boots with no color text or buttons

My laptop is running Vista and boots with an entire black screen and a white mouse pointer! What should I do?

If you have a windows disk or system recovery disk use the windows repair function. Sounds like the system shell is corrupt or the boot manager.
