well the guy i got the laptop from wasnt sure if he was running vista or windows xp, either way, it wont boot, i can use a boot cd to see files on the hdd so i know the hdd is still good and the windows files are there, but it just sits there at a cursor and wont boot, do you think the MBR is messed up or something? any and all help is appreciated on what i should try, anyway it just sits at a blinking cursor when its time to boot up, it posts and every thing and can boot from cds and dvds but formatting this thing is not an option, it has valuable files on it so i cant just wipe it

although i dont know of its vista or xp thats on it

is there anyway i can get the files off of it to another computer, the hard drive interface looks propriatary so its not sata or anything like that, so i cant just take the laptops hdd out and plug it into my system, is there a way to access the ntfs partition and plug it into my LAN and copy the hdd files over to my machine? there must be a way of doing that
