I have just got a new Toshiba laptop and it has very low storage so I bought a 250gb sata harddrive when I opened the laptop to replace there was no hard drive to replace and nowhere to connect the new hard drive I had done this before with my ps3 so just thought it would be the same can anyone advise how I can get extra storage for this laptop it only has 28gb

No. Onboard storage in that laptop is eMMC, which is probably soldered to the motherboard.

It does have an SD card slot that you could leave a large SD card in, though.

thanks, I got a usb cable to connect it but its not picking it up, do you know why that would be, it is not showing up in the devices and drives list

it could be that your hard drive is detected as an IDE hard drive, and that the bios of your new computer detects AHCI drives for being a new and modern computer.
