So I had this old laptop laying around and I decided to upgrade it from a Celeron M 520 to a Core Duo T2250. It seemed like it would work because it had the same FSB and socket. I changed it and tried turning it on but only the power indicator would light up and the optical drive would make sounds. So i thought that the CPU was toast, put the celeron back on and the same problem appears now. Could have I burned the mobo?

did you wear a static strap when changing the CPU? It's likely that you may have damaged the motherboard by touching the PCB with your bare hands causing a static short circuit. If that is in fact the case, you would need a new MoBo, and given it's age, probably not worth the cost or effort unless you had a need for the laptop.

I dont think that it is a short. The Power LED is still on and the optical drives makes a sound. I should try to find the battery and discharge the laptop of electricity.
