Hi,

I think that my problem is similar to another thread but the last post there asks to not up the topic.

I have a Toshiba x300 4TB as secondary unit, after some years of use, now is making very worrying noises, as if a fan suddenly stalled. After revisioning all coolers and fans, I realized that the sound comes from the HD.

CrystalInfo put it on alert state, 10k hours of use. How urgent is the replacement? Is the disk dying?

Whether or not dies today or tomorrow, what's relevant is that you make sure any and/or all data is backed up if the drive in question has mission critical info. If the drive is under warranty, it's a good idea to RMA it.

ISTM that the raw values of the Reallocated and Pending Sector counts reflect the number of affected LBAs whereas the Uncorrectable Sector Count reflects the number of physical sectors. This would mean that 8 LBAs is really only 1 physical sector, and 0x28 (= 40 decimal) pending LBAs is really only 5 physical sectors.

In any case, it would appear that the drive has begun to degrade. I would watch those numbers and be prepared to replace the drive.

"some years of service" - a mechanical drive typically lasts 3-5 years. If you are in or beyond that window and you are having issues, back up the data and replace the drive, do not wait for it to crash.
