"Toshiba has also presented an option for self-encryption according to the TCG Opal Ver. 2.0 standards, which will also have the SSDs self-wipe when hooked up to unregistered machines."I would like to see more about how that is implemented and what method is used to continually determine if the connected system is registered.

I'm kind of worried about the self-wipe protection. How does it detect if the PC is registered? If it's, for example, through the motherboard, if mine dies and it's the only PC I have registered, will my information be lost forever? It sounds nice if you're afraid of having your data stolen, but it might be a pain in the ass if you're taking into account possible hardware failure.

Keep an encrypted back up?Even the press release doesn't mention it much regarding the encryption and wipe.http://storage.toshiba.com/docs/default-source/press-releases/hg6_series_release.pdf?sfvrsn=0
