I was wondering if I could just toss any hard drive into my pc. I am upgrading my pc (gpu/cpu/mobo/ram/case) and if i took the hard drive that is in my PC now and just plugged it into the new build will it be fine? Someone told me it wont work because i'm going to have the wrong drivers, but can't I just uninstall the old ones and reinstall the new ones?

Solution

Negative.

I don't have a copy of my OS, so i'm SOL if that is the case.
U give up too easily.

If you have the tenacity :) Get hold of your license#, there is a couple of tools to query this if you have lost it, GOOGLE. Download an generic image of you OS, again GOOGLE. Must the the exact, whether W7, W8 and what not and 32 or 64bit, Home or Pro. Make it into an ISO and create yourself a Bootable Flash, and install from that. After installation it may complaint at registration but that can usually be resolved by calling in a special ph# (popup screen tells you) and going into a somewhat tedious automated registration procedure.

All this can be too...

That's correctomundo. The existing OS has got old drivers installed so it won't work for new machine. Use HD at will but you will have to re-install OS from scratch.

Can I just skip re-installing the OS, and just install the new drivers? I don't have a copy of my OS, so i'm SOL if that is the case.

All this can be too much for some, if so, throw them the credit card I guess.
