This is a real sap story, only read on if you are interested in human misery or want to help . . .
I was checking my computer health status one day and i noticed that the idle CPU temperature was 62 C - kinda hot considering it was a cool sept day. I ran Sandra for a bit and after some stress the CPU read 75 C.
This perturbed me greatly so i decided to reapply thermal grease to the CPU/heat - well the Volcano 9 is an easy heatsink to install but not so much to remove - the ****ing clips just wouldn't give for a while.
Well, once i got it off, i inspected the CPU for thermal damage (none) and reapplyed grease and remounted it. When i went to boot my computer, however, it just shut down after a few seconds. The fans would just spin up and then the whole thing turned off.
Possbilities:
1. I scraped the CPU un/installing the heatsink
2. I scraped the MB doing same
3. I got thermal grease somewhere is shouldn't be.
Well, i have no idea whether the CPU or the MB (or both) are broken and i don't have spare parts to test them on. The third option isn't very likely because Arctic Silver III isn't very conductive (according to manuf).
Any help appreciated very greatly.
