Hi everyone, thanks in advance as always for your expert help. I've got a crazy on going on that has me totally mystified. Out of the blue, my computer started randomly freezing, sometimes almost immediately after boot, and the only thing I can do is do a hard power down.

Initially I thought it was a GPU issue because there was a white LED on my mobo so I went out an upgraded my 1080 ti to a 4070 even though I don't game anymore and didn't want to drop $600. I also reset Windows 11. Neither of these solved the issue.

Then I went into my Bios and changed the "simple" profile from Normal to ASUS OPTIMIZED and now the system is stable. This is crazy because obviously NORMAL had been working just fine until all of a sudden it wasn't.

But also, now when I run OCCT, I get 28 million "Power" errors in 5 minutes (and my office smells like burning). See screen shot. Yet performance seems fine, and no errors on the CPU test in OCCT.

Is there something I need to do with these results if the PC seems to be working fine? Is it because ASUS is overclocking? Thanks!

SPECS:
  • OS - Windows 11
  • CPU - AMD R9 5900X
  • PSU - EVGA 850P2
  • MOBO - Asus ROG Strix B550-F
  • GPU - Asus 4070 Dual ($600 I guess I didn't need to spend...)
  • RAM - Corsair 16GB DDR4

Based on the fact that mentioned that your office smells like burning, I would suspect the PSU.

Thanks, that's my thought as well - though I don't know, now that the system is stable with the new Bios profile, whether I *NEED* to act on it. I mean this PSU is only maybe a couple of years old, max, and supposedly is a decent one.
