Touch pad will guide the cursor but when clicked will not do anything

Hi
Was wondering if anyone would be kind enough to help me out here please.
I have had this problem since i factory reset my laptop and have looked at all solutions online,
when i go to use my touch pad on my laptop it will guide the cursor but the click buttons will not work.
if anyone has any ideas or a solution that would be great and if any futher information is needed i would happy to supply it.

A little more info about the computer would be helpful, make, model, etc. Probably a driver problem.

update(or re-install) the touchpad drivers

well its a dell inspiron 17 5000 series and it just stopped working after i factory reset my computer mate .
i have tried updating it and it says i have the best driver for the software installed already.
