Touch screen - applicable to everything?

Hi

Looking into getting a laptop with a touch screen. Does the ability to use the TS apply to every application installed? Or is it only for apps that are coded to work with a touch screen?

the touch screen in windows 10 and 8 will work in every app, but with big fingers and small screen, under 8" is hard to touch the close button for example

you can use your finger as the mouse

in windows 7 is a bit annoying but should work too

in general, the touch screen is another imput device like another mouse

When I was fixing a neighbor's computer they had one of the all in one monitors/computers. The touchscreen part acted like a second mouse and it was working fine when I was running different programs on it.
