I got the R9 280 and before installing it I handled it too much, and touched the gold pins. Hands were dry though. Thing is though that I am deathly scared. I accidentally put some force on it. Also touched the printed circuit board. Was grounded though.

Is it ruined?

You have nothing to worry about. I work with computer parts on a daily basis and never wear static guards or anything and have never had a problem...
Hands aren't really dry. But there should be no problems. It would of been a problem if you accidentally zapped it, which is why you should use an ESD bracelet while working with your PC. You only know it's ruined when you get no video signal to your monitor through all ports. And there's obviously a small chance that it was dead on arrival (DOA), just RMA it if that's the case.

All the best!

Honestly, it shouldn't be a problem. It's not like you touched them while the PC was on. You touching it, the rubber cover touching it, no big deal unless you discharged static. All you can really do is try it out. I would be surprised if anything was wrong. If so, just RMA it and there should be no difficulty in getting a replacement.

I am actually away from home and have been for two months. I handled it last month. Just realized the danger now. Can it be fixed if I (hope not) get a problem? Going back next week.

You have nothing to worry about. I work with computer parts on a daily basis and never wear static guards or anything and have never had a problem. They are a lot more durable than you might imagine. Unless you bend them and hear a crack, or there was an obvious static discharge, then there's nothing to worry about.
