Hi guys, so I have a "TP-Link - Archer T6E AC1300" which is a wireless PCI Express card which I put in for my first ever PC custom build because I am using this in my room which is upstair and the modem/router is downstair on the main floor. And it is on the other side of the house from the router. So I don't want to have to hardwire my PC across the house up to the second floor which is too much work so therefore, I purchased a wifi repeater/extender which is arriving tomorrow to see if that resolves my issue. For now I am typing on my hardwire office computer which can receive up to almost 500mpbs.

This is my build https://pcpartpicker.com/b/XDfH99 and it is in excellent and working condition.

So my issue is that all of my wireless devices such as smartphones and tablets, are getting about 40-50mbps, while my desktop wireless pci express card is only getting about 0-2mbps which is just unacceptable. Is there some settings in my network settings or properties that I can do to tweak it and get a more acceptable browsing and download speed? Just so you know, I used to get about 20-50mbps a little bit after I built my PC, so now after a while I've been getting only about either 0-2mpbs or slightly faster as 5-6mbps if I'm lucky. And FYI even if I'm across on the other side of my house, I can still easily get an average of 50mpbs and watch a 1080p YouTube video while my PC is slow as poop.

Some help or advice would be great! College classes starts next week and I have some online classes and I would really like to get my internet back!

This is my modem/router what it looks like. https://eelxsoknbc-flywheel.netdna-ssl.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/Comcast-Modem-Image.png I just found this from google images just so you know what my modem/ router looks like.

The key reason desktops have more issues that say a laptop or other device is the placement of the wifi antennas. You have a huge metal case blocking the wifi signals from many directions. You could try to turn the computer to face a different way but it may not help much.

A repeater pretty much the cuts the speed in half or more to get more range. It must be place in a area that gets very strong signal and it will then attempt to repeat that signal to the remote area. You might get more speed if the area you put the repeater gets a lot more.

It does no good to put it in the same room as the computer in most cases. Finding a location in your house for the repeater is going to be hard since wifi has more issues going up and...

I already purchased this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07GC51H3W/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 on Amazon earlier this week. Hopefully this should resolve my issue since I live in quite a big 3 floor house with my family. My parents have a hardwired office computer with almost 430+ mbps while I'm only having a wireless connection with less than 5mpbs. My iPhone 8+ can get 40-50mpbs.

If you only want to use it for school work it will likely be ok. Using it to play online games likely will not be very good. You now have 2 radio signals that can be interfered with and the repeater itself is causing interference. These both contribute to inconsistent latency which normal traffic like your school work will not be affected by but games are massively impacted by that.

I would also recommend the powerline as a solution for this you have a much better chance for it to work and it will work a lot better for games.
