[SOLVED] tp-link pcie gigabit ethernet adapter slow speed

Just got 1 gig fios. None of my devices support speed over 400 mbps. Got this tplink pcie adapter but my mainboard only has pcie 2.0 ports. Do I need pcie3 port for 1 gig speed?

It will be more then enough, however you probably will never get the full 1 gig from your connection anyways, what they advertise and what you get are never the same. Also you need to be sure you are using Cat5e or better cable as normal Cat5 Ethernet is only 100mbps. Also be aware that alot of websites have actual transfer speed limits to limit their bandwidth overhead.

Thank you for your reply. I don't need this much speed but the offer is good. Going to lower speed will not save me much money.
Anyways, my question was about the technical aspect of gigabit pcie adapter on pcie 2.0 slot. Do I need 3.0 slot for higher speed?

No, a PCIe 2.0 slot is capable of 500MB/s which is 4gbps so you have more then enough bandwidth.
