I tried to install the wireless adapter but it keeps not getting recognised and keeps giving the "please plug in a wireless network adapter" message. I googled the problem and was directed to the tp-link website in order to download a driver, but the folder does not contain an application that I can run.

As a technically impaired duck that I am, I am asking you to guide me through the correction of the problem.

Thank you in advance!

Solution
For Windows 7, download and install THIS DRIVER, and for Windows 8 get THIS ONE. These are both zipped files that need to be unzipped before you can run them.

Disable your onboard adapter if you have one and plug the TP-Link in and install the correct driver.

Thank you for replying,
However, that is the zip file I downloaded in the first place and I can't see any application inside it that I can run.

Sorry, I didn't notice that those are just updated sys and inf files, you will need to first download and install THIS, which includes the driver installer (setup.exe), then you can upzip that other correct on in a temp file and go into the device manager and update the driver using that one in the temp file.

Thank you!! I did everything but besides the exclamation mark within the yelow triangle next to its icon, I get this message:

Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it.
Atheros AR9271 Wireless Network adapter
The system cannot find the file specified

:/

edit: My PC also works with XP so I tried it on XP and it worked with no problems whatsoever
