TP-link TL-WR940N Cutting speed in third.

We recently started trying to use these TP link routers, but they are dropping our network speed to 1/3 of what is should be even through ethernet. When bypassing the router we are getting around 60 but through it we are getting consistently 16. Anyone know of any settings or anything that could be causing it?

The ethernet ports are only 100Mbit so the BEST you can get is around 90Mbit.

Which version of that part number do you have there are V1, V2 and V3 hardware.

V2, which I would be fine at the base 100 as we are only getting 60/20 in that location, but it's only doing 16/20 through the router.

Do you have PPPOE or DHCP for your WAN connection?

On the WAN page, what is the MTU set? If you are PPPoE then this setting is on the Advanced PPPoE page.

It's DHCP, MTU is the default 1500 as it should be. It's the same with the newest firmware. In the same location with a Cisco router it works fine, it's just doing it with the TP-Link.

So the TP-Link is functioning as an Access Point (DHCP disabled)? Do you have the input cable connected to the LAN or WAN port?

We have it running as it's own router, the Pfsense is handing out IP from our pool of public address space. It is plugged in to the internet port.

No one have any idea on what it could be, no hidden QoS settings or anything?

I didn't find any reviews which identified what the throughput that router supported. I would it should be 40Mbit at least. I think you just need to retire it and get a new one.

It's done the same thing with two of them now.

If two different model routers have had a problem, then it isn't a router problem. It might be a router config problem, but I have no suggestions on what to change.

I looked through the user's manual. I didn't see anything that would help.

You could try second source firmware. This page -- http://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/tp-link/tl-wr940n says that you can use the 941 firmware. That means you could use DD-WRT firmware.
