Hello,
I'm working to install TR1 (and also all the others) on xp and I have already
looked for infos either on this groups and on the web pages, but there is still
a thing I don't understand. It is about 3dfxtr files. What are they and are they
needed to run TR under xp? Or I need just VDMSound, a tr installer and
eventually glidos to have a better graphic? Maybe 3dfx is another option or
maybe depends on the video card used? Please help!!! (I have a ati radeon
9600pro and xp professional if this helps).
Regards
Roberto

First, you want to forget "3dfx", this is not the version of the program
that is useful. You want the "VooDoo Rush" version developed for that
particular model of the VooDoo graphics card. See explanation below.

Second, you may not *need* anything, although it is highly likely that
you will need VDMsound. That is a matter of the game's expectations
(programming) in control of the sound card. You might have a "dos mode"
driver for your card that immitates DOS level control, but it is
unlikely. Most makers don't bother with providing that.

The VooDoo Rush TR files are only needed if you are using GliDOS.
GliDOS simulates a graphic interface called "Glide", translating Glide
commands for more modern cards (OpenGL IIRC). THe TR1 VooDoo version of
the game was coded to use Glide, and was capable of using higher
resolutions when run through a Glide interface. The support for other
interfaces (card specific) were less impressive (to be kind).

So you should be able to get TR1 running with VDMsound alone. The
graphics will be less than spectacular. But it should run.

Once you have done that, you should be able to install GliDOS and enjoy
TR1 with a much more pleasing (yet still not truly spectacular) resolution.

The Glide version of TR1 should be on the CD (if you've got an
original), and be 854 KB (873,739 bytes). It should be in the
3dPatch\VOORUSH directory and the date on the file may vary depending on
the CD.

I don't have a Voodoo card, I have a ATI card, radeon 9600pro. I still may want
the voodoo rush version even with the ati?

yes, I read that it should work even without glidos, but I still have to try to
install it, first I wanted to have clear the procedure and the files I may need

I don't have that folder in the cd, will try to look for it (and for the TR UB
version also, correct?) on the web.

Go to:
http://www.3dgamers.com/games/tombraider/downloads/

They have voodoo rush patch and full version of TR UB for 3dfx.
Every modern graphics card will work with this patch and Glidos.
