[SOLVED] trackball won't work consistently

I recently bought an Elecom M-DT2DRBK, and it just won't track some movements. I've tried cleaning the sensor, but that doesn't seem to do anything. Should I try to do anything else before returning it?

Reinstall the drivers.

Try the trackball on another known working computer.

If possible try another trackball on your computer.

Determine if the problem stays with the computer or follows the trackball.

If the latter then return the trackball.
