I have installed Windows 7 Professional 64 bit on a new desktop pc. Now my Logitech TrackMan Marble Wheel trackball does not work (or at least it moves the mouse pointer EXTREMELY slowly and erratically. It worked smoothly under Windows Vista 32 bit. Windows 7 says it furnctions correctly, and that the best driver (Windows 6.1.7600.16385) is installed! Logitech's newest driver (9.79.0.0) does not seem to be compatible. Does anyone know, if it can be brought to work under my Windows 7 system, or will I have to buy a new trackball?
Would be grateful for any comments and/or suggestions.
Best regards

I know that dirt can make all the difference between smooth and erratic pointer movement. However this case is more extreme than that, and it is virtually impossible to move the pointer away from the task bar or whatever it to sticks to. I've never seen anything like it. But thanks, anyway, for the suggestion.

I've had mice and trackballs do exactly, simply from being dirty.

Now I've given the device a thorough cleaning (which was indeed needed). However, I truly regret to say it hasn't helped. I've also tried the trackball back on the device on which it used to function flawlessly, -- and now it doesn't work there either! Of course, the trackball may have become defective, but I wouldn't rule out a driver problem, which I do not really know how to solve, if it can be solved at all (under Windows 7 64 bit or under XP 32 bist or Vista 32 bit). Perhaps it is time to buy one of those new "both handed" Logitech Marble models.
