I would be supplying my own display (24" 1920x1080, keyboard, and mouse. Which I already have.)

I am getting rid of my laptop as I don't really need portability anymore.

I think you should trade your laptop for the Desktop. Since it has a full blown water cooling system and desktop graphic cards are usually more powerful than a mobility laptop GPU whether or not they have different numbering.
